Alternatives for transgender healthcare in the Netherlands

In this chapter we discuss the available providers of transgender health care in the Netherlands. The providers we describe are:

- VUmc (Amsterdam Free University medical center).

- UMCG (University Medical Center Groningen).

- Route via independent psychologists.

- Hormones via GP’s.

- Hormone therapists outside of gender teams.

- Hormones via internet.

- Surgeons outside the gender teams.

- Informed Consent

The LUmc (Leiden) and genderteam Zuid-Nederland are not discussed here, because they only work for children and young adults: our site only deals with the treatment of adults. LUmc has indicated they will not accept new transgender people; they will refer them all to VUmc.
